Ideal Review Length

Introduction

Social networking is the most popular activity among Internet users. Here is how and what for they use it:

  • 43% of consumers are more likely to buy a new product when learning about it on social media (Nielsen)
  • 49% of U.S. consumers say friends and family are their top sources of brand awareness, up from 43% in 2009 (Jack Morton)
  • 77% of consumers are more likely to buy a new product when learning about it from friends or family (Nielsen)
  • 79% of U.S. consumers who’ve “Liked” a brand on Facebook did so in order to receive discounts or other incentives (Market Force)
  • 81% of U.S. online consumers’ purchase decisions are influenced by their friends’ social media posts versus 78% who are influenced by the posts of the brands they follow on social media (Market Force)
  • 85% of fans of brands on Facebook recommend brands to others (Syncapse)

Having said that, it's completely understandable to focus on social networks as one of the most effective form of advertising.

Here are some instructions about what the ideal length of those posts is.

Facebook

According to Jeff Bullas:

Facebook posts up to 40 characters generate highest engagement. Only 5% of all retail brand Wall Posts are less than 40 characters in length, even though these receive 86% higher fan engagement.

He says, in addition, that it's best to post when targeted audience is not at work.

This is the time when posts get most likes and comments. It's best to publish posts between Wednesdays and Sundays, because the engagement is 8% above average in those days.

Questions in posts cause an increase in engagement. No matter if you're an author or a promoter, in case you include questions to your post, they will make your friends and followers engage more.

Giveaway Service advises you the following:

The ideal length of a review is 100-300 words. Please do not just put "Yeah it worked" or something generic like that, or you may receive a bad rating. Make your reviews original and unique, add some personality to them, be creative, include how you used it in your life.

As we have previously stated in some of our previous blog posts, it is of crucial importance to authors to have detailed profiles. We encourage all our users to connect all social network accounts they have in order to make businesses pay closer attention to them. By doing this, you, as an author, will provide proof of your influence in the social media world. No business wants to approve an author who is not followed by anyone or who has no influence in the blogosphere whatsoever.

Facebook Visibility Tips

  • Add a nice Profile picture
  • Choose an attractive Cover picture
  • Optimize photo descriptions
  • Fill out your “About” section
  • Populate Milestones
  • Post visual content
  • Pin important posts to the top of your page
  • Keep track of how visible your post has been
  • Pay attention to comments

Twitter

According to HubSpot, here are some of the most useful instructions about making a successful Twitter post:

  • Your tweet should not be longer than 100-120 characters with a link or photo
  • Ideal hashtag length is 11 characters or shorter, if possible
  • Use 1-3 hashtags per tweet
  • Video duration in a tweet should be 30 seconds or less.

Do's and don’ts

  1. Learn Twitter terminology. When you post something, it’s a tweet. When you repost something from another user, it’s a retweet or RT. Trending topics, or TT, are topics discussed by many users at a given time. You can Favorite a tweet by clicking on the star. That is a great way to recognize someone for sharing your content.
  2. Don't tweet at people with links to your blog hoping to get their attention. That's spamming. Nobody tolerates a spammer. Be careful with that.
  3. You can follow twenty people with similar interests per day. That's not overwhelming, and reciprocal followers will add up quickly. Remember, you should measure your Twitter success not by your number of followers, but by the quality and level of engagement. However, businesses won’t choose you for a promotion if your only follower is your mom.
  4. Don't send auto-DMs. If you do, people will unfollow you. This won’t help you in appearing more attractive to businesses. If people start unfollowing you, your chances of being chosen for a promotion can decrease significantly.
  5. Limit yourself to 1-3 hashtags per tweet. Don't #overuse #hashtags #in #your #tweets. Hashtag only important information. Avoid hashtagging unnecessary things.
  6. If you and  your friend want to share personal and intimate stories, do it over DM-s. Nobody wants to be inundated with your tweets in their Twitter stream!
  7. Don't try to start arguments with people on Twitter. A friendly debate is fine, but respect others' opinions.

Giveaway Service instructs you to post of a review of 20-30 words. Please do not just put "Yeah it worked" or something generic like that, or you may receive a bad rating. Insert a hashtag provided on the promotion page and upload a nice photo. Make your reviews original and unique, add some personality to them, be creative, include how you used it in your life.

Instagram

Main users of social media are, of course, millennials. They love using social apps. One of the most popular is Instagram. Here is what to pay attention to when creating reviews on this social network:

Maximum length of an Instagram post is 2,200 characters. However, this does not mean you should use all of them in your review. Users dislike having to click "more" to see the whole thing, if they're viewing the post in their general feed. You should not, because of that, post extremely short reviews. In fact, try keeping your captions filled out with the important content or text calls-to-action, and leave any hashtags, @mentions, or additional information for the end.

According to official Instagram help center, they "make sure to upload it at the best quality resolution possible". They also offer this advice if you want to make sure that your photo is shared with a width of 1080 pixels:

  • Download the most recent version of the app
  • Upload a photo with a width of at least 1080 pixels with an aspect ration between 1.91:1 and 4:5
  • Make sure you're using a phone with a high-quality camera as different phones have cameras of varying qualities

YouTube

According to MiniMatters, here is what you should pay attention to:

  1. Favor short videos. If you can make it shorter and make all the same points, do so.

  2. Start off energized, and say all the important information first. Your audience will start disappearing over the length of your video, regardless of how interested they are.

  3. Don’t hold your call to action to the end, especially for longer videos. Provide the Product URL or say it can be found in description as soon as you say the name of the product and repeat that a few times.

  4. Consider breaking a long speech into digestible bits. On the other hand, don’t ruin a great speech by breaking it up. If a speech has been designed as a single continuous speech, keep it as is and allow the audience to sit back and experience the full impact.

Blog

We come to the most important part of the article: Blog posts are the strongest long-content medium. They do not serve just as a means of drawing attention to the product, but rather as a means of expressing your opinion in great detail. Blogging can be a great way to capture attention by giving detailed explanations, pros and cons and your sincere impressions. The best length is about 1,600 words, or no longer than 7 minutes of total reading time. We live in the world where people have no longer the luxury of spending too much time on reading. Make your posts engaging, ask questions, encourage participation in discussions, reply to comments (if comment section is available) and be creative. This is your opportunity to show everyone what you think and provide extensive explanation to support it.

Everybody wants to have more readers, comments, links and traffic. According to Forbes, it's good for SEO to write such long articles. They claim that the longer the post, the more it will get shared.

They say that you need to think about the following items:

  • Substance
  • Style
  • Frequency
  • Format
  • Purpose
  • Audience
  • Medium

According to our opinion, the ideal length of a blog review is 200-500 words. Please do not just put "Yeah it worked" or something generic like that, or you may receive a bad rating. Make your reviews original and unique, add some personality to them, be creative, include how you used it in your life.

Amazon

The ideal length for reviews on Amazon is 100-300 words. Please do not just put "Yeah it worked" or something generic like that. Make your reviews original and unique, add some personality to them, be creative, include how you used it in your life.

The best reviews include not only whether you liked or disliked the product, but also why. Discussing the quality of the product and your opinion of it is what a good review should be composed of. Your review should be:

  • genuine
  • personal
  • readable

You can read Amazon's official stand on reviews here. Amazon reviews are no longer subject to verification, but you can share URLs of your reviews with sellers (without obligation to do so).

Walmart and Etsy

The ideal length for those reviews is 100-300 words. Please do not just put "Yeah it worked" or something generic like that. Make your reviews original and unique, add some personality to them, be creative, include how you used it in your life.

Here are some tips on how to become a respected and appreciated reviewer:

  • Be informative and insightful
  • Be authentic
  • Be respectful
  • Write with style
  • Pay attention to grammar and spelling

So, if I post a detailed review on Amazon, am I still obligated to post one on Facebook? Other than Amizon, Facebook is the only Social Media I interact with. ~Thanks

Hi Diane, You should complete all other tasks that promotion owner has set in the promotion. So if the brand has set Facebook post as a task, Facebook post is then required.

Where do you find the tasks that a brand has set in a promotion?
Paul Blum Paul Blum 06/04/2017 23:38 PM
Hi Wade, You can see tasks on the promotion's page, under the product URL. Here are a link that you may find useful for getting started at Giveaway Service: https://www.giveawayservice.com/blog/how-to-get-started-at-giveaway-service-for-authors

If the task listed says "Write review on Third Party Website" does this mean Amazon? or some other location not listed. Would a post on Facebook or Instagram be acceptable? or does it need to be someplace that sells the product?
Paul Blum Paul Blum 11/02/2017 02:34 AM
Hi Kelly, third party website URL will be shown as product URL, and that is the website where you should leave your review on.
